There's no wrong way to do it, but these are the routes we get asked about most.
Byron, Noosa, K'gari, the Whitsundays and the reef in one trip. Give it three to five weeks so the drive doesn't take over.
Skip the southern stretch and head straight for the warm water. Two to three weeks suits most people.
Stay local for the Great Barrier Reef, the Daintree and the Atherton Tablelands. A week or so is plenty.
The rental company's full terms are shown during booking. These are the questions travellers ask us most.
The rental company. They supply the vehicle and your rental agreement, and your booking is made through our booking partner, Roaver. If anything goes wrong, message Rob and we'll help sort it out.
A full, current driver's licence. If yours isn't in English, bring an International Driving Permit or an approved translation along with it.
It depends on the rental company and the vehicle. Some rent to drivers from 18, others start at 21, and younger drivers may pay an extra fee. What applies to you is shown before you pay.
Most rentals include basic cover with a high excess, and you can usually pay to reduce it. A bond may also be held on your card during the hire. Check what's included before you confirm.
Yes, and on the East Coast most people do. Some rentals add a one-way fee, which is included in the price you see before booking.
No. Rental agreements don't allow campervans or hire cars on K'gari's sand tracks. Leave the van on the mainland and join a 4WD tag-along tour instead.
Stick to caravan parks and campgrounds. Free camping rules change from one council to the next, and parking overnight where it isn't allowed can mean a fine.
Rob can plan your route, book the tours along the way and fit your campervan around them. Free, with no obligation.
